News: Citroen DS4 (makes world debut at Paris Motor Show)

bad credit loans

News homepage

Although Citroen didn’t use the word ‘crossover’ in today’s (August 30, 2010) press release, it’s obvious that’s what the new DS4 is. The second model in Citroen’s reinvented DS line will be unveiled to the public at the Paris Motor Show next month, alongside the car it’s based on, the new Citroen C4.

The DS4 trades on its striking styling. While obviously from the same school of design as the five-door C4 hatchback, the DS model has a higher ride height and features more extravagant detailing. Standout aspects include the Alfa Romeo-esque hidden rear door handles and curved LED daytime running lights.

Inside, Citroen’s designers have been given a free rein to distance the DS4 from the C4, with more premium materials as standard, a high level of equipment

bad credit loans

News homepage

The latest Sportec upgrade to be offered in the UK is a so-called Stage One power boost for the supercharged Audi S5 coup and Cabriolet.

The Swiss tuners have come up with a free-flowing air filter and comprehensive ECU remap. The result is a claimed 97bhp power increase, taking the S5 to 425bhp. Torque is up too, from 325- to 379lb.ft with at least 80 percent of that figure available between 2,750- and 6,250rpm.

Sportec claims that the package cuts half a second from the 0-62mph time; it’s now 4.6 seconds. Thanks to the broad spread of torque in-gear flexibility is said to be improved too.

The British supplier for Sportec, APS of Brackley, offers the Stage one Package for 1,950 fitted.

Another Ferrari 458 Italia goes up in flames

bad credit loans

It is the fourth 458 to burst into flames in just six weeks, while a fifth was
wrecked in a warehouse fire at Heathrow Airport.

A total of 11 models have been wrecked by a mysterious “jinx” since
it was launched three months ago. Six have crashed and five ruined by fire.

The first crash occurred in Poland on May 20 when the driver – thought to be
in his 20s – swerved to avoid a bus, veering into a Volkswagen family saloon
and suffering frontal damage.

In July a customised 458 which featured a £65,000 Dolce and Gabbana interior
was wrecked in a warehouse blaze at Heathrow Airport after being flown in
from Saudi Arabia.

The owner of the Heathrow

Driven: Caterham Superlight R400 (First drive)

| First Drive | Kent and Surrey, England | Caterham Superlight R400 |

It’s been a while since we’ve driven a Caterham and the same old thing happened: a tense meeting was followed by a period of contemplation and the rest of the time absolutely revelling in it. If you like driving then you’ll like Caterhams. And the Superlight R400 is one of the very best.

In the Metal

There’s not much of it. The average Caterham weighs well under half that of a conventional car – even a light one. Porsche’s 911 GT3 RS – the lightweight one remember – tips the scales at 1,370kg. A porker indeed… The Caterham Superlight R400 is just 515kg. It looks

First Official Pictures

27 August 2010 15:38

These are the first pictures and details of a new supercar from fledgling Canadian company De Macross Motors Corp (DMMC), which was set up in 2009. It’s called the GT1, and CAR has been given the lowdown on this new supercar.

The car you see here is a 25% scale model of the De Macross GT1, which is being developed in conjunction with component manufacturer Multimatic. Much of the funding for the project comes from Korean businessman Jahong Hur, whose wide-ranging business interests mean he has pockets sufficiently deep to develop the GT1 seriously.

The usual GM V8 then?

Far from it. The De

Renault introduced its new Latitude family car at the Moscow Motor Show this week. The Skoda Superb rival will go on sale in Russia this autumn and then in Asia, Africa, Turkey, Australia and Mexico before making its European debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. It is expected that a European version will go on sale shortly afterwards, though no announcement has been made about an introduction into the British market.

Longer and wider than the Skoda Superb, this new car will boast high levels of specification, including bi-xenon headlights and LED rear lamps. More power for the Panamera – at a price

bad credit loans

Top speed (unlikely to be reached by anyone while driving in the UK) is
increased from 188 mph to 190 mph, while the engine still returns 24.6mpg,
the same as that of the 493bhp version. There’s good news for existing
Panamera Turbo owners too; the kit can be retro-fitted, from November.

A “Sport Design Package”, new 20in Sport alloy wheels and Porsche Torque
Vectoring Plus have also been introduced as options for the Panamera. The
Sport Design Package includes a unique body-colour nose with wider black air
intake grilles and separate side skirts. From October, the Sport Design
Package will be available for £2,516.

Other new Panamera options include a three-spoke sports steering wheel with
gearshift paddles, available in combination with the Porsche

News: Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 (new diesel-electric hybrid crossover is first in sector)

bad credit loans

News homepage

Peugeot has revealed what it claims is the industry’s first full hybrid with diesel power, the 3008 HYbrid4. It boasts official fuel consumption of 74.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 99g/km.

The drive system uses Peugeot’s 163bhp, 2.0-litre HDi turbodiesel engine, which drives through a six-speed automated manual gearbox to power the front wheels. Drive to the rear wheels comes from a 37bhp electric motor.

The hybrid transmission has four modes of operation, controlled by a selector on the centre console. Auto is designed to allow the drive system to operate for ‘optimal fuel consumption’. ZEV is the zero-emissions mode, which means the 3008 runs on battery power unless strong acceleration is required; Four-wheel drive uses both diesel and electric motors together for improved low-speed traction on difficult surfaces;

Audi A1 meets the Audi 50: a reader spyshot

24 August 2010 10:13

CAR reader Joe Stanger was in Germany this summer, when he spotted the new Audi A1 on set with the last Audi supermini, the 50 that went on to sire the VW Polo.

Sounds like he unintentionally stumbled upon the global media launch of the Audi A1, which was hosted in Berlin, Germany.

‘These photos were taken in Berlin at the end of June or start of July,’ he tells us. ‘The camera crew were filming and taking photos of the new Audi A1 and the Audi 50. They were taken not too far from the Reichstag.’
